The Minister's Blog
This is me at an infant school earlier today trying to explain what my 'job' is all about. What do I do as a minister at the local Baptist church? In my hands is a short length of rope - my visual aid.
My job includes many things, but at the heart of it is sharing the Good News. The word, 'gospel', means just that - Good News. The Christian Faith is not bad news - that we are all 'sinners' far away from God's best for us. We already know that without having to be told. The Christian Faith is not good ideas or good teaching, encouraging us all to try harder to be better people. Many people who aren't Christians try very hard to do the right thing.
The rope visual aid was to demonstrate that the seemingly impossible can be achieved with God's help. That's the good news! God has come to help us. We are all of us limited in our ability to improve, to be better people; but God's gift to us is freedom from past failure and power to live a new way.
